Hours and Location
Our office is open weekdays 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

We are located at 45 Monroe Street in the City of Hillsdale.
One block north of Carleton Road (M-99) between West St. and Hillsdale St.

After Hours Emergencies
Anytime you call our office after hours, you will get our recording which offers several options.
  • You can leave a message in the general mailbox. These messages are listened to the next business morning.
  • You can dial the extension number of the person you want or dial *2 to get the directory.
  • You can leave an emergency message.
To leave an emergency message, you must have a touch tone phone. If you do not have touch tone capabilities, please call 911 and request that they place the call for you. To place an emergency call, please follow the instructions in the recording. Please, only place your emergency call once. Once the message is left in the appropriate emergency mailbox, the system will contact the emergency personnel on call and they will respond appropriately. It is very important that you access the appropriate mailbox during an emergency. Leaving an emergency message in the general mailbox, will not get a response.

Payment Options
Payments can be made in person at the HBPU Office, Nash Drugs – downtown, or City Hall. Payments can be mailed to the HBPU Office at 45 Monroe Street, Hillsdale MI 49242. (An envelope is provided with your monthly bill.) Payments can be made by cash, check, money order, or credit card.

The HBPU also offers Budget Billing (level billing over a 12 month period – reviewed each April) and Automatic Billing Payment Program (authorization from the customer to have their bill deducted from their designated financial institution account or credit card on the billing due date). Either program can be started or cancelled by the customer at any time and there is no charge to participate.

Meter Reading InformationMeter
Meters are read approximately the same date each month. For your protection, HBPU employees are required to wear identification when on customer’s property. Though the HBPU attempts to read the meters each month, there are occasions when the HBPU may have to estimate the customer’s monthly bill.

Bills are due 14 days after the billing date. A 2 day grace period is allowed before a late charge is assessed and a delinquent letter mailed. 26 days after the billing date, a final notice is mailed out on any delinquent balances of $25 or more. 31 days after the billing date the unpaid account will appear on the disconnection list. The customer’s account may be subject to additional charges if on the disconnection list.

The customer is responsible for notifying the HBPU as to when service is to be taken out of his name.

If you are renting your property, we have a Landlord Tenant Agreement that you may want to sign. Please ask for a copy from our office.
