Payment Options
Payments can be made in person at the HBPU Office, Nash Drugs – downtown, or City Hall. Payments can be mailed to the HBPU Office at 45 Monroe Street, Hillsdale MI 49242. (An envelope is provided with your monthly bill.) Payments can be made by cash, check, money order, or credit card.
The HBPU also offers Budget Billing (level billing over a 12 month period reviewed each April) and Automatic Billing Payment Program (authorization from the customer to have their bill deducted from their designated financial institution account or credit card on the billing due date). Either program can be started or cancelled by the customer at any time and there is no charge to participate.
Meter Reading Information

Meters are read approximately the same date each month. For your protection, HBPU employees are required to wear identification when on customer’s property. Though the HBPU attempts to read the meters each month, there are occasions when the HBPU may have to estimate the customer’s monthly bill.
Bills are due 14 days after the billing date. A 2 day grace period is allowed before a late charge is assessed and a delinquent letter mailed. 26 days after the billing date, a final notice is mailed out on any delinquent balances of $25 or more. 31 days after the billing date the unpaid account will appear on the disconnection list. The customer’s account may be subject to additional charges if on the disconnection list.
The customer is responsible for notifying the HBPU as to when service is to be taken out of his name.
If you are renting your property, we have a Landlord Tenant Agreement that you may want to sign. Please ask for a copy from our office.
